How to install Opera mini 4.1 into Palm TX

Below is the proven method (at least is work for me) for installing Opera mini 4.1 into Palm TX. Hope you can benefit from the steps below also.

1. Download "IBM WebSphere Micro Environment Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for Palm OS" from http://mytreo.net/downloads/ibm-websphere-everyplace-java-virtual-machine,1313.html (have to register (it's free) on this site in order to download) and install the following few files to your handheld from within this ZIP file:

The required files are in the sub-folder "WEME572\PalmOS JVM 5.7.2\JVM\ARM4T". The required files in that folder are "J9JavaVMMidp20.prc" (about 1654KB) and "JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc". For non-English languages you'll also need a "J9JavaVMMidp20_?.prc" where the ? is a language code appropriate for your Palm.

2. Download and install Opera Mini 4.1 for your Palm OS device. Just open your Brazer and pointing to http://mini.opera.com/ and click on Download Opera Mini. Then a window will pop-up asking you to confirm to download the Opera mini, just click "Yes". The download will take about 1 minute (depends on your internet speed). After finish downloading, proceed to next step.
Note: Don't run the application on the handheld yet !

3. If you haven't already, HotSync to install the Java Support files to your device.

4. Set the appropriate Java Preferences on your handheld:

a. Open the "Prefs" application and scroll to the bottom and open "IBM Java VM".

b. In the IBM Java Preferences screen, set to the following:

My Settings on a Palm TX :
* Use Double Buffering = YES
* Use high resolution coordinates = YES
* Set Memory Maximum = 4 MB (some say 1MB is enough or even better)
* Set the Maximum Thread Stack size = 32KB

5. Launch the "Opera" program icon on your handheld and hopefully it will open without a hitch. Here is the whole story in case you need more insight: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=168423.

Happy Browsing!!
